Services > Village Water System
The Andover Village Water District (AVD) water system serves over 900 people within Andover Village including the Andover Elementary Middle School, Proctor Academy, ten businesses, two professional offices, three town government buildings, the Post Office and about 85 single-family and multifamily homes. Water distribution system piping was installed in approximately 1910 to deliver water from an intake on the southern portion of Bradley Lake to the former Hame Shop, Proctor Academy and the Village of Andover.
The Hall Road filtration plant was constructed in 1994 to comply with the surface water filtration requirements of the federal Clean Water Act. The filtration plant has peak flow capacity of 180 gallons per minute (gpm) through two banks of three ceramic media pressure filters manufactured by Kinetico Systems, Inc. Potable water is stored in one 100,000 gallon tank at the Hall Road filtration plant and one 200,000 gallon tank located on Ragged Mountain above Proctor Academy. The AVD monitors the system water quality consistent with New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) requirements.
The AVD operates under an elected board of 3 Commissioners serving 3-year terms and a Secretary/Treasurer serving a 2-year term. The AVD annual business meeting and elections are held the first Monday in March.
